How businesses and the local community have been getting ready to welcome you back.
As we emerge from lockdown more and more shops in Basingstoke Town Centre are opening their doors ready to welcome you back!
They have been working hard over the past few weeks to ensure all necessary safety measures are in place ready for you to visit shops and move around the town.
The Top of Town
“Keep Left and Play Your Part – Stay Apart” will be the main messages to remember when moving around the Top of Town. By keeping to one side of the street, visitors will be able to keep the recommended distance from one another as they move around town.
The street cleaning team will be hard at work with an increased cleaning schedule for all public areas.
All businesses open at the Top of Town will have their own social distancing measures in place, so take your time to check what steps you make be asked to take. This might include queuing to enter the premises, following a one-way system or using contactless payment where possible.
If you are driving to Town you can enjoy one hour of free parking in any of the council’s short stay car parks. The council is also working to provide hand sanitising stations within these car parks and at the Top of Town.
The Malls Shopping Centre
Visitors to The Malls will be asked to keep to the left when moving around the centre. You will also be asked to stay 2 metres from each other when possible. All shops will have their own social distancing measures and queuing systems in place.
You’ll notice a few changes when visiting Festival Place, as the team have worked hard to prepare for visitors. Hand sanitisers will be at the entrances, the cleaning teams will be working throughout the day, and new signage has been placed around the centre. This includes a new one-way system and distanced queuing outside of stores.
While it’s great news more businesses can open, many will have to wait a little longer before they can welcome you back. Here are some useful tips for how we can all support our local business community at this time.
• Open businesses have new safety measures in place. Please abide by them to protect their staff and yourself.
• Many businesses, although closed, are still operating online. Check their social media and websites to find out more.
• Choose to Shop Local, both online and in-person.
• Order from local takeaways and restaurants
• Buy gift vouchers to use at a later date.
• Give your favourite businesses a 5-star review online.
• Donate online to local causes and charities.
Remember to #shoplocal Basingstoke! and support your town centre.
