Festival Place has won Basingstoke’s Green Champion of the Year award.
The Destination Basingstoke’s Place to be Proud of Awards ceremony was held virtually, where Festival Place was recognised as Green Champion for its environmental initiatives to make Basingstoke a cleaner, greener, more sustainable place to work and live.
The award, sponsored by the Gazette series of newspapers, highlighted the work that the FP technical services team has done in the centre’s non-public areas, by installing a new lighting system. This has vastly reduced CO2 emissions and made significant savings over a five-year period.
Publisher Bill Browne said: “Festival Place have adopted as many measures as they can think of to influence their eco efficiency, and where they can, they make it fun for the customers too.
“A lot of work has been done to ensure that they are as green as they might possibly be, and they are deserved winners. So, everyone that has been involved in making these changes, well done – you thoroughly deserve this award.”
FP Director Neil Churchill said: “These are fantastic awards that celebrate the best of Basingstoke, and to win this award in particular is very special to us as it’s an area we take such pride in. We have been relentlessly driving our energy-saving, sustainable initiatives for the last few years and I would like to thank the whole FP team in delivering such innovative ideas.”
