A Guide To Help You Shop Locally This Christmas

10 November 2020

Basingstoke Together have produced a series of gift guide for those wanting to support local businesses while Christmas shopping this year.

The collection of Basingstoke-centric guides has been produced to help those who want to support small and local businesses running up to the festive period this year. Basingstoke Together, the business improvement district for the town centre, has created the guides to cover all ages and tastes this Christmas.  The idea behind creating the guides was to give people who want to support local Basingstoke businesses some inspiration and ideas with their seasonal shopping.  There were originally three different versions, one for him, one for her and one for kids, teens and tweens. However, with the recent restrictions in place over November, they have also created a “Click and Collect and Online” guide. Each guide has been carefully curated to include a range of gifts and some out of the box ideas to surprise your loved ones at Christmas.

The gift guides also include a list of restaurants for those who are out shopping and looking to pick up something to eat as well as for those who are looking for a takeaway as a break from cooking over the holidays.

Jane Stewart, Chef Executive of Basingstoke Together, said “It’s been a tough year for everyone, especially small and independent businesses, but over the course of the year we’ve seen a real desire from Basingstoke residents to support their local businesses. We have put together these guides to make it easier for people to find local businesses they can support during this lockdown and to get some inspiration on what to buy as well.

Since the town centre reopened in June, visitors have, on the whole, been fantastic with keeping socially distant from one another, following the guidelines put in place and helping to keep our town centre safe for everyone. We’re sure this will continue over the next few weeks as people look to start their Christmas shopping.”

Not wanting to leave out the national chains in the town centre, the BID has also created a Fashionista Guide covering some of the bigger businesses and well-known names in the town centre.
